On 11 – 12 July, General Director of NIIAT Alexey Vasilkov addressed Japan-Russia Workshop in Tokyo

The Russian-Japanese seminar on development of cooperation in the use of environmentally friendly fuels in transport, including gas motor fuel was held in Tokyo (Japan), 11 – 12 July 2019. It was convened by The Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation in co-operation with The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan in the framework of the Russia-Japan Energy Dialogue.

The General Director of the Scientific and Research Institute of Motor Transport (NIIAT) Alexey Vasilkov addressed the seminar, participated in discussion sessions and gave a presentation of regulatory framework in the field of technical operation of motor vehicles powered by natural gas. There were also representatives of The Ministry of Industry and Trade of The Russian Federation, The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, The State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM and other industry experts and representatives of leading Russian and Japanese automakers.

Participants of the seminar discussed the prospects and shared experiences on improving the environmentally friendly transport, including through the use of cars on alternative fuels (natural gas, hydrogen, electricity) and possible areas of cooperation.

The parties agreed in response to the identified national priorities to continue the exchange of experience in this area, as well as to consider the possibilities for deepen cooperation between the Russian and Japanese companies.

In addition, representatives of the Russian delegation visited the production facilities of hydrogen for fuel-cell vehicles and the auto plant ISUZU located in Fujisawa, in which the development and production of long-haul tractors on liquefied natural gas are being exploited.
